It may be obvious to us how we are reading Paul's letters, whether online or in a hard-cover book. And it may seem obvious that the Bible is a stable, solid thing, published between covers. Yet this was not so in the ancient world, and, indeed, even today different Christian communities sometimes have slightly different Bibles, and certainly various Christian communities emphasize different parts of the Bible. To give only one example, some Christian communities barely ever read or hear sermons from the Apocalypse of John or Revelation, while some understand it as a roadmap of their present and future
